Maintaining Fiscal Stability, Quality Patient Care and Historical Mission to Remain Priority

At its Oct. 23 meeting of the Nassau Health Care Corporation (NHCC) Board of Directors, the appointment of Arthur A. Gianelli as the president/CEO, responsible for providing leadership for Nassau's healthcare system comprised of Nassau University Medical Center (NUMC), A. Holly Patterson Extended Care Facility (AHP) and the seven Community Health Centers located throughout Nassau County, was unanimously approved. Gianelli had been serving as the NHCC Acting President/CEO since June 1, having been named to that position by Martin Payson, Chair of NHCC's board chair.

"I am delighted to confirm Art Gianelli's unanimous appointment by the board as president/CEO of the NHCC. He has demonstrated the leadership necessary to solidify NHCC's foundation and position Nassau's healthcare system to prosper in the future by providing sound financial expertise and a commitment to quality healthcare," stated Payson.

In accepting the appointment, Gianelli said, "I am looking forward to the challenge. This health care system's role remains critical to the well-being of the region and I am honored to be able to work with a dedicated, skilled group of employees and volunteers who are committed to its mission of serving all the people of this county.

During the last few years, Gianelli served as the deputy county executive for Budget and Finance in the administration of Nassau County Executive Thomas R. Suozzi. Gianelli was the top appointed official responsible for fiscal and budgetary matters in Nassau County. While with Nassau County, Gianelli led the development and implementation of Nassau's fiscal recovery plan. From 1997 through 2001, Gianelli served as the director of operations for the Town of North Hempstead. As the top appointed official responsible for fiscal and operational matters in the town, Gianelli led North Hempstead's financial recovery.

Gianelli graduated in 1991 from St. John's University with a bachelor of arts degree in history, summa cum laude; from Brown University in 1994 with a master of arts degree in political science, concentrating in public policy; and from Dowling College in 2003 with a master of business administration, concentrating in banking and finance. Currently, Gianelli is enrolled in the Executive MPH program at Columbia University.

Gianelli resides in New Hyde Park with his wife, District Court Judge Sharon Gianelli, and his two stepchildren, Cameron and Jessica.

Payson concluded, "Already, since June 2006, Mr. Gianelli has been instrumental in instituting an updated strategic plan and a $240M modernization program for the corporation, in addition to a reform plan for the Community Health Centers. The board has confidence in Mr. Gianelli's sound financial management and his commitment to quality healthcare to successfully complete the NHCC's turnaround."
