My name is Vincent Suozzi, cousin of Tom Suozzi, Democrat for Governor. More important, I am a member of the New York State United Teachers (NYSUT). I am employed by the Westbury Union Free School District and teach physical education and health for grades six, seven and eight.

Our union is "quietly" endorsing Eliot Spitzer for governor. I find this a little disconcerting. On July 25, during a live debate between the two candidates, the moderator asked, "Overall, are private schools better than public schools?" Mr. Spitzer responded "yes." Tom Suozzi confidently said "no." I have no problem with Mr. Spitzer sending his children to private schools (my cousin sends his children to public schools). However, as a member of this very strong union, I do have a problem endorsing a candidate that obviously has little faith in our public school system.

Tom Suozzi faces a challenging primary on Sept. 12, 2006 against Attorney General Eliot Spitzer. I am so proud of his effort and resiliency. Not having the resources (money) that his opponent has, my cousin is going straight to the people. His grassroots approach is what got him elected as Nassau County Executive in 2001. His message is clear: He will fix Albany and work for the people. He is not connected in any way with the status quo. With all due respect, Mr. Spitzer is. Politicians, lobbyists and special interest brokers have endorsed him for one reason only: They believe he will leave government just the way it has been for the past decade - dysfunctional.

My cousin Tom Suozzi has a solid record of government reform; Mr. Spitzer does not. Tom Suozzi is an executive; his opponent is not. I know that Tom is the right choice for governor. He needs your support on Sept. 12. Also, he needs the support of your friends, family and neighbors.
