Last week's announcement by Nassau County Presiding Officer Judy Jacobs that she will support New York State Attorney General Elliot Spitzer, rather that Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi, for governor must be applauded for its political logic and the message it will undoubtedly send to fence sitters who are not certain which way to go. I would not be surprised if there is more to it than meets the eyes, but not being a political insider, just an ordinary voter who votes on issues rather than personalities or sound bites, the reasons she espouse are good enough for me.
I am certain that most of the folks, who will add their names to the 15,000 petition requirement for Souzzi, will do so out of a sense of loyalty, or "likability" rather than anything else. Judy Jacobs has vocalized what most of us are thinking - Souzzi has done well for Nassau County, and he will do even better with Spitzer's support in Albany. Souzzi should remain in Nassau County.
