Westbury Budget Rejected for Third Time in Four Years
For the third time in four years, Westbury residents voted May 16 to defeat the school district's $85.3 million spending plan. A mere 16 votes meant the rejection of the 2006-2007 budget with 790 (51 percent) votes cast against and 806 (49 percent) votes cast for the 9.37 budget-to-budget increase. As a result, district officials have decided to put the budget up for a revote later next month.

Tuskegee Airman Speaks to Naval Sea Cadets
Westbury's Lt. Col. Spann Watson, one of the surviving members of the Tuskegee Airman, the famed World War II 332nd Fighter Group, held a discussion session with young men and women from the Liberty Division of the United States Naval Sea Cadet Corps (NSCC) during a May 8 event at the Amityville-based United States Armed Forces Reserve Center. Approximately 45 members of the reserve center community along with cadet family members participated in a historic talk about patriotism, segregation and life in an era that has shaped the world today.

'Gina's Giants' Raise Nearly $5,600 for MS
After his wife Regina "Gina" O'Donnell was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis two years ago, East Meadow resident Craig Adams wanted to make a difference. Earlier this year, a friend of Craig's suggested he take part in National Multiple Sclerosis Society - Long Island Chapter MS Walk as a means of honoring Gina.

Chiefs Tie Manhasset Indians, Beat Levittown Blue Devils
During their May 7 home game, the Mineola PAL Chiefs third grade boys tied the Manhasset Indians 6-6 and, on May 11, they beat the Levittown Blue Devils 5-2 on the road, increasing their record to 3-1-1.
