State Senators Urge NY Congressional Delegation to Investigate Port Security Deal
Members of the State Senate this week called on the New York Congressional Delegation to urge President George Bush to order a further investigation of the potential risks associated with the sale of Port of New York operations to Dubai Ports World. The Senate called for the Congressional action in a resolution passed Feb. 27. The Senate also announced a new package of legislation that would address security gaps that currently exist at the port that make the metropolitan area vulnerable to terrorist attack.

29th Annual Nationwide 10K Run of ASPIRE April 1
Runners and walkers are invited to participate in the 29th annual edition of the Nationwide Insurance 10 Kilometer Run for ASPIRE, Long Island's oldest continuously held 10K run. The run will be held on the roads of Plainview, Old Bethpage and Bethpage, on Saturday, April 1 with the starting horn going off at precisely 9 a.m. at H.B. Mattlin Middle School on Washington Avenue in Plainview.

SUNY Old Westbury's Purnell, Garrett Earn All-Skyline Honors
Danna Purnell, a 5-7 point guard, led the SUNY Old Westbury Panthers with 12.8 points per game and finished fourth in the Skyline Conference in assists, dishing out 108 helpers on the season (4.5 per game). One of the top defenders on the team, Purnell was the team's leader and was second in the league with 96 steals (4.0 per game).
