Getting ready for the spring season, Westbury and Jericho players from the Long Island Junior Soccer League took part in a Speed Clinic at Velocity Sports Performance in Syosset. With direction from Velocity's world-class coaches, the athletes participated in a dynamic warm up and drills that targeted improving their acceleration, maximum velocity, multi-directional movement and flexibility, all important for improving their overall athletic performance and speed.

During the warm up they were shown movements that focus on joint stability, flexibility, coordination and balance which help promote injury prevention. The athletes were shown proper running form, starting techniques, body positioning and force applications that will increase their speed on the field.

"The ability of an athlete to accelerate and quickly change direction separates a great athlete from a good one," stated Velocity's Sports Performance Director Stieg Theander. "The ability to break away from an opponent or to cover more of the playing field or court can really make a difference. Parents and athletes need to understand that you can learn how to run faster and move quicker with the proper training."
