While most people are aware that October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, it is a lesser known fact that November marks Adoption Awareness month and former Westbury resident Dana Royster is one adoptive mother who would like to change that. Royster believes adoption is an underrepresented topic, one from which she said children would have a better understanding of if discussed early in life. The Westbury Village Board recently adopted a measure that will impose a public benefit fee on commercial developers who are the recipients of parking variances in the Village's business districts. The proposal, initiated by Village Trustee Peter Cavallaro, calls for the imposition of a public benefit fee upon the granting of variances by the Village Zoning Board of Appeals from the village's regular parking requirements.
