On Friday, Oct. 21, Governor George E. Pataki was joined by state and local officials in the Incorporated Village of Westbury to announce a total of $600,000 in awards to Nassau County through the state's Main Street Program. The program is designed to stimulate downtown revitalization in communities by providing funding for building renovations, streetscape enhancements and downtown business or cultural anchors. After six decades, the China-Burma-India (CBI) Hump Pilots Association held its 60th and final reunion last month and Carle Place resident Ernest Chester was not one to miss it. Now 88 years old, Chester, arrived in Nashville, TN on Sept. 27 for the four-day long reunion. The event, the last for the association, was also Chester's last hoorah as he gathered with some 430 fellow "hump" pilots and crew and their families. FULL STORY

The 26th Annual Carle Place Civic Association's (CPCA) Fun Run/Walk Day took place on Sunday, Oct. 23 throughout the streets of the community. The event was a huge success with over 140 walkers and runners as well as many observers along the way and at the finish line. FULL STORY
