  • News: Corbin, Alexander Vie for 2nd L.D. Seat

    Democrat incumbent Roger H. Corbin, a 50-year resident of New Cassel, is seeking election to his sixth term as a Nassau County Legislator of the 2nd L.D. on the Democratic, Independence and Working Families Party Lines. Currently, Corbin serves as the Deputy Presiding Officer of the Majority, is chair of the Government Services and Operations Committee, vice chair of the Finance Committee, a member of the Minority Affairs Committee and chair of the Health & Human Services Committee. The 2nd L.D. encompasses communities within both the Town of Hempstead and Town of North Hempstead, including Westbury, New Cassel, Hempstead Village and Lakeview as well as parts of Uniondale, Lynbrook, Garden City and Rockville Centre.   • News: Moroney Questions Troiano's Adjournment, Wants Campaign Sign Removed

    Republican North Hempstead Town Council District 1 candidate Francis X. Moroney says the sign on incumbent Councilman Robert Troiano's 421-423 Grand Boulevard property in New Cassel listing the Democratic ticket he is running on - Jon Kaiman for supervisor, Michelle Schimel for town clerk, Sharon Commissiong for Nassau County district judge, and Troiano for councilman - should be removed. Moroney said it is "a perfect example of political back-scratching" because Commissiong was the judge who granted a two-month adjournment in the town's housing code violation lawsuit against Troiano for the property the sign is on. "He is receiving preferential treatment and that's wrong," said Moroney, who also said the sign was erected soon after the adjournment. FULL STORY

  • Sports: Mineola's Defense Holds Up, Chiefs Beat Garden City 12-7

    The undefeated Mineola PAL 8-year-old Chiefs played at home this past Sunday at Hampton Field and beat the Garden City Thunder 12-7. The win brought the Chiefs' record to 6-0 as they continue their storybook season. FULL STORY

  • Sports: Registration for "Bunky" Reid All-Star Basketball Classic Under Way

    Coach Michael Jackson will present the "Bunky" Reid All-Star Basketball Classic on Saturdays from Nov. 5 through Dec. 24 at the Incorporated Village of Westbury Sport Center, 346 Post Avenue. The classic will be divided into three divisions: 6- to 8-year-olds: 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.; 9- and 10-year-olds: 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.; and 11- and 12-year-olds: 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Registration is currently under way.
