  • News: CP Water, 'Best Tasting' on Long Island

    The Carle Place Water District was named Long Island's Best Tasting Tap Water in the Annual Long Island Best Tasting Tap Water Contest at an event at Maxwell & Dunne's Steakhouse in Plainview, edging out Suffolk County Champion Dix Hills Water District. The water was judged in a blind taste test by Nassau County Legislator Richard Nicolello, WALK-FM Radio personality David North and Suffolk County Director of Environmental Affairs Michael Deering.   • News: Commercial Traffic Crackdown in New Cassel

    North Hempstead Town Supervisor Jon Kaiman and Councilman Robert Troiano announced that over 40 summonses were issued by the Nassau County Police Department's 3rd Precinct as part of an operation to crack down on illegal truck traffic through New Cassel's residential neighborhoods. The operation, which was implemented in conjunction with the North Hempstead Town's Department of Public Safety, took place the evening of July 1 from 5 to 7 p.m. and consisted of a checkpoint at the intersection of Urban Avenue and Railroad Avenue.   • Sports: Foundation to Host Annual Celebrity Golf Classic July 18

    On Monday, July 18, the Marty Lyons Foundation will host its annual Celebrity Golf Classic at the Old Westbury Country Club and Sands Point Golf Club. The event is sponsored by Bank of America and will honor Man of the Year John A. DeFranza, senior vice president and market manager of business banking for Bank of America, for his humanitarian efforts and commitment to the foundation.     Local runners, walkers and wheelchair athletes are cordially invited to join in the fun on Sunday morning, July 17, for the second annual edition of the "Heart and Sole 5-Kilometer Run/Walk. The run will once again be starting and finishing at the Plianview-Old Bethpage Middle School, Central Park Road and Southern Parkway in Plainview, starting at 9 a.m. FULL STORY
