Residents Want Third Track Project Derailed
The message was loud and clear. Residents living along the Metropolitan Transit Authority/Long Island Rail Road's (MTA/LIRR) 11.5-mile Main Line Corridor do not - under any circumstance - want a third track installed. They do however, welcome the elimination of on-grade crossings in New Hyde Park (Covert Avenue, 12th Street and New Hyde Park Road), Westbury (School Street) and New Cassel (Urban Avenue) and believe that phase of the LIRR's highly controversial Main Line Corridor Improvements Project should be tackled now. The LIRR's Main Line runs from Queens Village east to Hicksville.

Some 30 Residents to Be Evicted for Wright Street Home
On June 30, Nassau County Executive Thomas R. Suozzi along with North Hempstead Town Supervisor Jon Kaiman and Councilman Robert Troiano announced that the town will be obtaining an injunction for 269A Wright Street in New Cassel. The town believes that 30 residents are currently living in unsafe and deplorable conditions in a home that is zoned for one family use and has agreed to give residents seven days' notice prior to any action on the property. Representatives from various housing and social service agencies will assist residents with relocating into safe and adequate housing.

WHS Girls Varsity Track and Field Team Receives NYS Team Scholar-Athlete Award
Westbury High School Girls' Varsity Track and Field team recently received the New York State Team Scholar-Athlete Award for the spring 2005 season from the New York State Public High School Athletic Association, Inc. (NYSPHSAA). The students on the team earned this recognition for maintaining a combined GPA above 90.
