Magnolia Gardens Blaze Takes Resident's Life
Firefighters from Westbury, Carle Place, Hicksville, East Meadow and Jericho responded to a fire at the Magnolia Gardens Senior Citizens residence on March 5. A 75-year-old female resident, whose second floor apartment went ablaze, succumbed to her injuries the following day at Nassau University Medical Center. The senior complex, which is located on Broadway and operated by the North Hempstead Housing Authority, reopened on March 11. As of press time, most residents had returned to their apartments.

Four Frog Wrestlers Place at Nassau County Championships
Carle Place Wrestling Coach Mike Nicoll could not have been more proud with the effort of his varsity wrestlers throughout the grueling winter season. Although the team struggled in duel meet competition, their hard work and improved skills resulted in four wrestlers placing in the Nassau County Championships held at Nassau Community College on Feb. 19 and 20. The Division II Championships consisted of the best wrestlers from Manhasset, Wheatley, Oyster Bay, Locust Valley, Mineola, North Shore, Cold Spring Harbor and Carle Place High Schools.

Wheatley Sophomore Earns Maccabiah Selection
Travis Roher, a sophomore at The Wheatley School, has been selected as a member of the 2005 United States Maccabiah Basketball Junior team. The team will represent the United States at the 17th World Maccabiah Games, which will be held in Israel this summer from July 10 through July 21. Travis was one of ten players selected from highly competitive tryouts that were held in Philadelphia and Los Angeles.
