  • News: New Cassel Groundbreaking Set for December 14

    County Executive Thomas Suozzi, North Hempstead Town Supervisor Jon Kaiman and Councilman Robert Troiano, Unified New Cassel Community Revitalization Corporation (UNCCRC), the Town of North Hempstead Community Development Agency (CDA) and Sustainable Long Island announced that a groundbreaking ceremony for the New Cassel Revitalization project will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 14 at 1 p.m. The ceremony will feature the Stoneridge projects and will take place at Site "B," 816-822 Prospect Avenue, located between Siegel and Sheridan Streets. Among the featured speakers will be United States Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton and Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy. FULL STORY

  • News: Westbury Village Receives Credit Rating Upgrade From Moody's

    Moody's Investment Services, a financial rating agency which compares credit worthiness of municipalities against one another, recently upgraded the rating of the Village of Westbury to an A1 superior grade. Only two other villages in Westbury's tier of villages in Nassau County - Valley Stream and Massapequa Park - are rated so high. Prior to the upgrade, Westbury Village's bond rating was A2.   • Sports: Teams Qualify for Carle Place NYS Scholar-Athlete Team Awards

    During the past fall sports season, six varsity teams from Carle Place High School qualified for the New York State Scholar-Athlete Team Award (NYSPHSAA). In order to qualify only the top minimum number designated by NYSPHSAA, Inc. of student-athletes from a varsity team must combine for a minimum of a 90 "unweighted" grade point average. FULL STORY

  • Sports: Wheatley Boys Soccer Captures NYS Championship

    The Wheatley School Varsity Boys Soccer Team capped an undefeated season with a 3-0 victory over Westhill High School to earn the school's second New York State Championship title. The season actually began last May with the tragic death of Craig Grumet, a junior at Wheatley, who broke into the starting lineup as a freshman defender and who was to have been team captain during his upcoming senior year. Team members, all of whom had been childhood friends of Craig and teammates in the local youth soccer program, dedicated their season to Craig's memory. FULL STORY
