Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is a 5-mile walk taking place in each of the five boroughs, Long Island and Westchester on Sunday, Oct. 17. Last year, 76,000 walkers in the metropolitan area, which includes the five boroughs, Westchester and Long Island, raised $6,113,000 for breast cancer research, education, advocacy and services for patients and their families.
The American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer gives participants the opportunity to honor and celebrate breast cancer survivors, educate women about the importance of early detection and prevention and raise money to fund lifesaving research and integral support programs.
On a local front, the Long Island walk will take place on Oct. 17 at Jones Beach State Park. For additional information, contact the American Cancer Society at 1-800-ACS-2345 or visit www.cancer.org.
