With Rabid Raccoon Count Up to Four, NYS DOH Distributes Vaccine
With an additional rabid raccoon reported on Sept. 2, bringing the total to four in recent weeks, the New York State Department of Health and the United States Department of Agriculture, Wildlife Services (USDA) distributed raccoon rabies vaccine by hand and helicopter this week in an effort to protect residents from rabies. Veterinarians and wildlife biologists from the New York State Department of Health Zoonoses Program conducted the vaccination program in cooperation with the USDA.

Wheatley to Dedicate Soccer Facility in Memory of Craig J. Grumet
Last spring, the Wheatley school community was devastated by the untimely death of Craig Grumet, a junior at The Wheatley School. Craig, who was a unique and extraordinary young man, was killed in a tragic automobile accident on May 7, 2004.

Making Strides 'Walk for Mental Health' Rescheduled
The Third Annual "Long Island Festival & Walk for Mental Health" will take place on Sunday, Sept. 26 at 1pm. Those who would like to participate should gather at the Huntington Post Office at 12:45pm. The walk will end at Heckscher Park where walkers will be welcomed to the town by Huntington Town Supervisor Frank Petrone. Transportation to the walk throughout Long Island may be provided to those that request it. Bus stops have been scheduled at various Long Island locations such as Hands Across Long Island in Islip, Concern for Independent Living in Medford and Sayville Project in Sayville.
