Village Extends Moratorium
The Westbury Village board of trustees has extended a moratorium on all development within the incorporated village's business district. The moratorium, which was implemented in early 2004 and was originally in effect until July 1, will remain in effect through January 2005. The hold was placed in an effort to provide the village with the opportunity to prompt "smart growth" within its business zone while protecting existing residential and business populations.

Next Phase of Downtown Revitalization Under Way in Westbury Village
The Village of Westbury has been revitalizing and beautifying its business downtown during the last five years with funding from its Business Improvement District (BID), Community Development Block Grants from the federal government funneled through the Nassau County Office of Housing and Intergovernmental Affairs and aid from Nassau County and New York State.

Westbury Real Estate Executive to Be Honored at PPNC 2nd Annual Golf Classic
Planned Parenthood of Nassau County (PPNC) has chosen Marilyn Monter Witthuhn as its premier Golf Classic honoree. Monter Witthuhn, vice president of the Westbury-based Holiday Organization, is one of Long Island's leading businesswomen. She is also a philanthropist dedicated to preserving the health and well-being of the community. Monter Witthuhn also notes that it was her family's company, the developer of distinctive residential and golf communities, that gave Long Island its first privately owned "gender neutral" golf course. Or as she puts it, "You'll see both men and women on our golf courses on Saturday mornings."

Arm Wrestling to Highlight 44th Annual LI Scottish Games
Spectators are invited to compete or watch the muscle ripple as the New York Arm Wrestling Association, the Long Island Clan MacDuff and Old Westbury Gardens presents the 25th Annual Long Island Golden Arm Championships to be held at the Arm Wrestling Stage at the 44th Annual Long Island Scottish Games on Saturday, Aug. 28 at 71 Old Westbury Gardens. This year's sponsor is White Castle Hamburgers.
