The Carle Place High School's Varsity Softball Team enjoyed another rewarding spring season under Coach Chris Ceruti. The team earned a hard-fought Conference B/C Championship, finishing with an impressive 14-2 league record. The Frogs beat some very tough opponents during the league season to earn the championship. This was a team that returned eight varsity players from last year's County "C" Championship Team. For the third time in seven years, Coach Ceruti was selected as Coach-of-the-Year by her colleagues.
This was a team where every player contributed to the success. These young ladies realized the thrill of victory and how to cope with defeat. They learned the meaning of sportsmanship and in this field they really excelled.
The team was led by junior, co-Captain Lauren Monaco who was selected as an All-County player. Monaco led the team with a .971 fielding average and pitched a one-hitter against a very strong Cold Spring Harbor team. Dale Cornelius, Alyssa Bruckner and Allison Waters also earned All-Conference honors. Senior Erin Anderson and junior Jenna McLaughlin, as well as sophomore Michelle Jarvis, were selected to the All-Division Team. Senior Kristin Basso received the Scholar-Athlete Award. Senior Casey Hackett has played varsity softball for two years and was nominated by her team to be a co-captain.
Although the team lost in the Section VIII Class "C" Semi-Finals, their Conference B/C Championship was a tremendous accomplishment. The team will graduate Erin Anderson, Kristin Basso and Casey Hackett. Coach Ceruti would also like to recognize several other players, namely Suzanne McCarthy, Melanie Rizzo, Melissa Gordon and Heather Collins for their contributions throughout the season. A special thank you to Karl Bruckner (official scorekeeper), Jen Yannacone (J.V. and assistant coach), as well as all the parents and fans who supported them throughout the spring season.
