The Westbury Green Dragon football program capped off their exciting season with a convincing 28-12 victory over host Herricks High School, clinching their first winning season in over a decade.

The team improved in every category. Offensively, the Green Dragons averaged 23.5 points per game, up from 16.8 points per game average the previous year. Defensively, the Dragons also improved with 16.3 points against average as compared to an 18.6 points against average per game last season.

The Green Dragons were led by senior quarterback Andre Murray and his school record 10 touchdown passes. Leading senior receivers Albert Handy, with 16 receptions for 347 yards and seven touchdowns, and Kerry Gulley, with 16 receptions for 334 yards and four touchdowns, gave all opposing defenses problems. The leading rusher was senior fullback Cameron Miller with 720 yards and five touchdowns. The tailback job was shared by both senior Terron Hardy, 217 yards, three touchdowns and sophomore Thomas Davis with 235 yards and four touchdowns. The offensive line that paved the way for over 2,100 yards of offense was anchored by seniors James Cole, Jean Impert, Demitrious Jackson, Andrew Creary and Keith Moody and junior Michael Spruill.

This season's Nassau County league awards saw five Green Dragons honored. James Cole received the "Unsung Hero Award" for his play and dedication to our program after a season-ending injury against Elmont high school. Terron Hardy and Kerry Gulley received "All Conference" honors. Cameron Miller received "Honorable Mention All County" honors and Albert Handy earned the distinction of being a member of this year's "Gridiron 44 All County" team. Handy also received "Academic All Conference" honors along with being chosen as a "Golden Eleven." Probably the most prestigious award, the Golden Eleven are 11 student-athletes chosen from over 1,500 Nassau County football players for their athletic and academic achievements. Handy was also a "Kessinich Award" finalist, another first at Westbury High School. Handy and offensive guard Impert were also chosen to play in the annual Thanksgiving Day all-star game at Hofstra stadium.

"This year's team set a solid foundation for the future of the Westbury High School football program," stated coach Lou Buschi. "I am proud of what our kids accomplished." From a quote by William Cullen Bryant, our student-athletes learned that "destiny is not a matter of chance, but a matter of choice. It is not something to be wished for, but rather, it is something to be attained." This group started the season with a goal in mind and achieved much more than the goal itself. They were brought closer to the realization that it is each of us individually that has the power to fulfill a dream.

Depending on our choices and actions, we can decide our fate. All it takes is all you've got!
