As part of an ongoing program to promote running among young people, NIKE and Long Island Track & Field recently joined forces to donate 600 pairs of running shoes to Long Island youngsters, including those from the Westbury Police Athletic League (PAL) Track & Field Team.

The shoes were presented to Westbury PAL Coach Brenda Brown and 17 of her team members at The Runner's Edge in Farmingdale on Thursday, Oct. 23.

"This is an outstanding win-win situation for all concerned," said Long Island Track & Field President Susan Polansky. "It is a most welcome breath of corporate fresh air for a big organization like NIKE to give so generously to local running communities and local youngsters and needless to say, the boys and girls of the Westbury PAL can make good use of their new NIKE shoes!"

Long Island Track & Field is the local arm of USA Track & Field, the national governing body for the sports of track & field, long distance running and racewalking.
