    Last week's election was a bittersweet one for North Hempstead Republicans who, over the course of the past two years, put forth a lengthy and costly lawsuit to implement council districts in the hopes of once again having a voice in town government.   • News: New Roof, Other Projects Proposed for Carle Place for HS/MS

    In the Carle Place School District, a facilities committee consisting of 12 community volunteers was formed last January to evaluate the condition of district facilities and to specify and prioritize the work that needed to be done. The committee also reviewed financial elements and determined potential costs and timelines for the Carle Place Schools. The members submitted a report to the Board of Education in July, making recommendations for what work should be done, with emergency and health and safety issues at the top of its priority list.   • Sports: Wheatley Students Receive Honors

    Throughout his high school career, Sean has demonstrated outstanding athletic and scholastic ability and has earned a well-deserved reputation as a leader among his peers. His fitness scores and skill development in Wheatley's Physical Education program have been outstanding and his enthusiasm for learning is greatly appreciated. He has been a three-sport athlete during his four high school years, competing in cross-country, indoor track and lacrosse and earning All-Scholastic honors in each sport. FULL STORY

  • Sports: Ferrara Completes NYC Marathon

    Westbury resident Jerry Ferrara, 53, completed his fourth consecutive New York City Marathon on Sunday, Nov. 2 in 4 hours, 8 minutes - two minutes quicker than he did last year. Ferrara, an active member of the Long Island Road Runners, ran his first marathon at age 50. When he isn't running, Ferrara is a building contractor and the owner of Ferrara Custom Construction Corp. Ferrara and his wife, Jacqueline, have lived in Westbury for almost 20 years. They have three grown sons. FULL STORY
