Troiano Announces Candidacy for TNH Council District #1
Robert Troiano, Jr. of Westbury announced he is a candidate in the Democratic primary for the Town of North Hempstead's Council District #1. The primary will be held on Sept. 9 between Troiano and fellow Democratic candidate Regina Corbin.

North Hempstead Wins Redistricting Suit
The Town of North Hempstead won a significant victory in the appellate division of the New York State Supreme Court on Aug. 21. A five-member panel ruled unanimously to uphold Judge Robert Roberto's decision, which affirmed the town's right to create district lines for the new ward system. The North Hempstead Republican leader, Peter Cavallaro, had filed suit to prevent the town board from drawing the new district lines, maintaining that this is the responsibility of the board of elections. When the lower court decision supported the town's position, Mr. Cavallaro appealed that decision.

Westbury Karate Program A Success
The Westbury Recreation Department's Karate program, which was started by the L.I. Okinawan Martial Arts Center (LIOMAC) last April, held it's first testing on Monday, Aug. 4. Seven blackbelts from LIOMAC's other schools were on hand to assist Sensei John Power in the testing. They also gave a demo to show the students and parents what is in store for the future.

Westbury PAL Bowling Schedule
The Westbury Police Athletic League's (PAL) fall bowling programs, for children in kindergarten through middle school, will begin on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 19 and 20. The Friday afternoon program is at 4 p.m., while Saturday bowling starts at 10 a.m.
