Appellate Division: Village Has Power to Deem Theater Unsafe
On Monday, Aug. 4, the Supreme Court of the State of New York Appellate Division: Second Judicial Department reversed the orders of a Nassau County Supreme Court and returned the original issues regarding the safety and condition of the Westbury Theatre back to the Village of Westbury's Board of Trustees. The decision is the result of an ongoing legal battle between the village and Rod and Corrine Straehle, the owners of Post Avenue theater (See "Village, Business Owners in Legal Battle Over Movie House," The Westbury Times - Aug. 8).

Stacy Lee, Tennis Champion
Thirteen-year-old Stacy Lee of Old Westbury is already at the top of her game. This seventh grader, who recently graduated from Willis Road School, will attend Wheatley High School in September. But, unlike most students her age, she won't be the "new kid on the block" or on the tennis court when school starts in September.

CP High School's Annual Varsity Athletic Awards Dinner
Once again, Carle Place High School honored its varsity athletes at the Annual Varsity Athletic Awards Dinner held at the Chateau Briand in Carle Place on June 3. The dinner honors all of the varsity teams from each of the three sports seasons with a total of 21 varsity teams. Some 470 people attended the dinner, including members of the board of education, administration, coaches, Athletic Booster Club officers, parents and approximately 200 varsity athletes.
