150 Years and Still Growing Strong
In 1853, Isaac Hicks began selling trees to his Westbury neighbors. Soon after, he began Isaac Hicks and Son, a company he ran out of a shed in his backyard. Now, 150 years later, Hicks Nurseries, Inc. is still selling trees as well as various other products to meet the horticultural needs of Long Islanders.

Former Employee Files $1.2M Lawsuit Against Westbury Library
A notice of claim filed against the Westbury Memorial Public Library last year has since become a full-blown lawsuit. In April, Joan Boes, a resident of Westbury Village and a former library employee, moved forward with a $1.2 million lawsuit against the library, its director, current and past board members, and three employees who were officers of the library's staff association.

Lady Frogs, Nassau County 'C' Champions
Carle Place High School's 2003 Varsity Softball Team earned their first Nassau County/Section VIII Class 'C' Championship in six years. This was quite an accomplishment because only five of the regular 13 varsity players had returned after the 2002 season.

Harrison Sanford, a Young Sportswriter at the Top of His Game
Harrison D. Sanford of Westbury is a sportswriter in training. Beginning in the fall, the 16-year-old junior at Lawrence Woodmere Academy (LWA) will write a column for SchoolSports magazine, and recently covered the NBA draft at Madison Square Garden for the publication. His column will cover basketball, baseball and tennis at the Academy and will also appear on the magazine's website.
