Park Avenue Teacher Recognized
Reading teacher Susan Nettler has received recognition for her work at the Park Avenue School. A resident of Greenvale, Nettler was recently honored with the "Teacher Recognition Award" by the Intercounty Teacher Resource Center (ITRC), the Long Island Region's affiliate of the New York State Teacher Centers, an organization which works with educators to provide ongoing professional education services to the state's teachers.

Brittany Teller, Epilepsy Foundation's 2003 Winning Kid
Eight-year-old Brittany Elizabeth Teller of Westbury has been named "2003 Winning Kid" by the Epilepsy Foundation of Long Island. Teller is a bright, active and outgoing third grader at the Bowling Green Elementary School in Westbury. She takes piano, dance and swimming lessons and is a member of Girl Scouts.

Wheatley Senior Tennis Player Among the Best
As a junior, Fink went undefeated during the regular season. He qualified to compete in the New York State Tennis Championships and defeated his first four opponents to advance to the Singles Championship in which he lost a hard fought battle to a representative from Westchester County. In recognition of the sportsmanlike manner in which Fink represented Wheatley during the State Championships and, for the humility he displayed during victory and his graciousness in defeat, he received the Sportsmanship Award. This award was presented by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association. The sportsmanship program was initiated several years ago to promote the ideals of good sportsmanship. It is awarded to selected teams and individuals that distinguish themselves during NYS championship tournaments.

Frogs Named NYS 'B' Champions
Carle Place High School's varsity baseball team accomplished something that no other boys team had ever done, a New York State championship! The baseball team joins six field hockey teams ('83, '85, '86, '87, '89 and '90) and two girls volleyball teams ('95 and '97) as one of nine Carle Place High School teams to earn a NYS championship. Six other teams also progressed to the championships but lost in the finals, including the '97 baseball team.
