Westbury Public Schools debuted its new, state-of-the-art, free Community Technology Center during a ribbon cutting ceremony on Monday, Jan. 13. The new center, open to the public for the first time, will be available Monday through Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. FULL STORY

Charles O'Shea, Chairman of the Nassau County Board of Assessors, visited Anton Communty Newspapers offices on Thursday, Jan. 23, to bring the editors up to date on the ongoing Tax Assessment Project. Mr. O'Shea confirmed the fact that he plans to run for re-election to his post in November and expects to point to the success of the project in his campaign. "Is it perfect?" he asked rhetorically, and answered, "no." "Is it a tremendous improvement? Yes" Did the county get its money's worth? Yes." The money he was talking about is the $34 million contract that Nassau County awarded to Cole, Layer, Trumble, the assessing professionals who carried out the project. Mr. O'Shea said that the contract called for Cole, Layer, Trumble to assess 414,000 parcels of property, making the contract work out to approximately $90 a parcel. Three years ago, the boys' varsity basketball coaches at Carle Place, Herricks, Mineola and New Hyde Park High Schools organized the Coaches vs. Cancer Holiday Tournament to help raise money for the American Cancer Society, specifically cancer research. This year's tournament was hosted by New Hyde Park High School. Combined, the four-teams raised $3,500 and Carle Place High School donated $1,000. FULL STORY
