Westbury Friends School will hold an open house on Saturday, Dec. 7 at 2 p.m. Parents with young children in nursery through grade six are invited to attend. Teachers and school parents will be present to greet and inform prospective families for the 2003-2004 school year and to offer tours of classrooms and the school's 17-acre grounds.
Westbury Friends School (WFS) which is accredited by the New York State Association of Independent Schools, is a culturally diverse elementary school for 155 students with small classes and highly qualified and dedicated teachers.
"We offer academic excellence in a caring environment," said Director Ida Edelman. "As a Friends school, we seek to develop in each child a sense of unique self-worth and an appreciation of the worth of others."
In response to expanding student enrollment, WFS has recently completed five new classrooms in its "Building Friends for the Future" campaign and a new Library Media Center will be open for use by all students this month. To meet the needs of its professional parents, WFS offers half and full-day nursery, full-day kindergarten and extended-day care from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. The school also offers extensive computer, music, art and physical education programs as well as instruction in Spanish and French. A financial assistance program is also available.
Future open houses are scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 12 at 2 p.m.; Wednesday, Feb. 12 at 7 p.m.; and Wednesday, March 26 at 2 p.m. Westbury Friends School is located at 550 Post Avenue at Jericho Turnpike in Westbury. Prospective parents should call Director Ida Edelman at 333-3178 for further admission information or details at the Dec. 7 open house.
