The Neighborhood Cleaners Association International's annual "Coats for Kids" campaign kicked off on Sept. 23 and will extend until Dec. 31, according to longtime supporter of the project, Assemblywoman Donna Ferrara (R,C-Westbury).
"The campaign provides clean, warm coats to grateful local children and adults absolutely free of charge," said Ferrara.
"The Neighborhood Cleaners Association International, which has 450 members in the metropolitan area, has worked with local organizations for the past 17 years to collect, clean and distribute thousands of coats to deserving recipients. Radio announcements and newspaper and television coverage accompany the drive and many churches, synagogues, schools, PTAs and civic groups join in the effort.
"An endeavor such as this does a great deal to unite Long Island communities in an effort to improve the quality of life of many children and adults. I urge everyone who can do so to donate usable coats to the drive," Ferrara said.
Assemblywoman Ferrara's district office at 150 Post Avenue in Westbury will serve as a collection point for coats. Additional information may be obtained by calling that office at 338-2693.
