Over the summer, numerous blood drives were held in an effort to find a bone marrow donor. In July, The Westbury Times ran an article seeking community support for Hinton-Diedro at a local blood drive. Despite high donor turnout, Hinton-Diedro became too weak from radiation treatment over the next few months and doctors did not feel a transplant could save her.
Hinton-Diedro grew up in Westbury and graduated from Westbury High School in 1982. She went on to earn a degree in fashion illustration from the Parsons School of Design in New York and worked in the fashion field up until she was diagnosed with NHL in 2000. She married Lasme Diedro in 1998 and gave birth to her first child, Meliane, a year later. Less then two years later, she gave birth to twins, Loweye and Essane.
Besides her husband and children, Hinton-Diedro is survived by her parents, John and Elaine of Westbury; and two sisters, Alyson Hinton of Plainfield, NJ and Ashley Hinton of Westbury. A funeral mass was held at St. Brigid's Church in Westbury on Saturday, Nov. 16.
