Incumbents Prevail in Local Elections

Deceased Marine Honored for Service to Country
At her district office in Hempstead on Monday, Sept. 30, Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy presented Westbury resident Weston E. MacLean with war medals in memory of his son who was killed in action 36 years ago. LCPL Weston D. MacLean, a member of the United States Marine Corps serving in the Vietnam War, was killed on July 22, 1966. He was 19 years old. In his son's honor, MacLean was awarded the Purple Heart Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with two bronze stars, the Presidential Unit Citation Ribbon, the Gold Star Lapel button, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Meritorious Unit Citation (Gallantry Cross Medal Color with palm) and the Legion of Merit Medal (Navy/USMC). In addition, McCarthy also presented MacLean with medal for his service in World War II. The resident of Westbury for 50 years said it wasn't until he started filing paperwork for his son's medals that he realized he never got his. Now after 36 years, MacLean can finally place his and his son's medals together in a showcase in his home.

CP Girls Soccer Takes First
Carle Place girls soccer, under II Division, took first place in the East Islip Tournament held Columbus Day weekend. Team players are: Jessica Lewis, Lauren Trogele, Catherine DiFrisco, Jessica Bruckner, Allison Laga, Alexandra Mendyk, Cassie Fitzgerald, Lisa Frodella, assistant coach; Ali Carbone, Melissa Frodella, Meghan Monahan, Lauren Gray, Christine Eagan, Daniella Carusone, Steve Trogele, assistant coach and coach Pete Fitzgerald.
