Assemblywoman Maureen O'Connell, the only registered nurse currently serving in the state legislature, spoke to over 75 guests at Adelphi University Oct. 17. O'Connell was the second guest lecturer for the "President's Series on Critical Issues." The lecture and discussion entitled, "Resolving the Shortage of Nurses in New York State," addressed the issue of what the state needs to put money into nursing education and nursing scholarships and what nurse academics need to study and document for health care concerns. Her address was particularly appropriate for the university as the Nursing School celebrates its 60th anniversary year.
