I would like to take this opportunity to urge the residents of the Town of Hempstead to take time out to view the memorial quilt created by Cub Scout Pack 233 of Westbury and hundreds of volunteers. The quilt is currently on display at The Source Mall in Westbury.

The quilt, which is 28 feet high and 46 feet long, is an American flag that includes patches customized for each of the 2,800 victims of the September 11, 2001 tragedy. The patches reflect the names and interests of the victims and provide an opportunity for the friends and family of the lost to celebrate the lives of their loved ones.

This project by the Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts and the many other volunteers involved was truly a monumental task and incredible undertaking. As a local representative and citizen of the United States I truly appreciate the hard work and dedication by all and would like to commend all for a job well done.

Gary Hudes

Councilman, Town of Hempstead
