Westbury native Steve Danbusky has been named assistant men's soccer coach at Western New England College. Danbusky, a 1999 graduate of Williams College, will be reunited with former teammate Erin Sullivan who serves at the head coach of the Golden Bears.
Danbusky was a four-year starter as a defender and midfielder for the Ephs. During his freshman season, he was among the top players on the Williams team that won the 1995 NCAA Division III Championship. (Sullivan was a senior and the starting keeper on that squad.)
Danbusky, who has extensive playing experience at the professional level, captained the Ephs side his senior year that advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Division III Championship. That season, he was named a first team All-American, first team All New England and participated in the 1999 Umbro Select Senior All Star Classic.
Danbusky is currently a team captain for the Division 3 Professional League Connecticut Wolves, the 2002 Northeast Division Champions. He also has played in the A-League, and the United States and Canadian second division, as a captain for the Long Island Rough Riders. He currently serves as a staff coach for the Connecticut Soccer School and has also served as a volunteer assistant coach at Adelphi University and as a staff coach for the Paul Riley Soccer School of Excellence.
In his second stint as a collegiate coach, Danbusky will assist the Golden Bears in the areas of team training, recruiting and scouting.
"I am thrilled that Steve has accepted this position and will be with us this fall," said Sullivan. "He will be an outstanding addition to our coaching staff. Steve brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience and will be a tremendous asset in our program."
