As the one-year anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks approaches, local church and community organizations are planning memorials in remembrance of the day's tragic events. The following memorial services and/or events will take place in the Westbury, New Cassel, Carle Place and East Meadow communities:

* 2nd Annual World Day of Prayer: Wednesday, Sept. 11 between noon and 8 p.m. (Sponsored by the Long Island-area New York Conference Branch Women's Missionary Society of the African-Methodist Episcopal Church)

* Interfaith Memorial Service: Wednesday, Sept. 11, 8 p.m. at St. Raphael's R.C. Church, 600 Newbridge Road, East Meadow.

* Service: Wednesday, Sept. 11, 7 p.m.

* Memorial Service: Sunday, Sept. 8, 10 a.m.

* Commemoration of 9/11 Service: Sunday, Sept. 8, 10:15 a.m.

* Commemorative Ceremony: Wednesday, Sept. 11 at Town Hall, 220 Plandome Road. Two moments of silence will be observed at 8:45 a.m. and 9: 01 a.m. Selected poetry will be read and elected officials will make brief comments.

* Masses: Wednesday, Sept. 11 at 7 a.m., 9 a.m. and 12:10 p.m.

* Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament: Wednesday, Sept. 11 from 2:10 to 5 p.m.

* Evening Prayer Service - Remembering September 11: Wednesday, Sept. 11, 7:30 p.m.

* A Special Memorial: Through Sept. 15, the church will be open Sunday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Community members are encouraged to pray for peace. Written intentions can be placed in the basket at the foot of the altar.

* Evening Service Focusing on the Tragedy of 9/11: Tuesday, Sept. 10, 7:45 p.m.

* Service of Remembrance: Wednesday, Sept. 11, 6:30 a.m.

* One Year After 9/11 - America's Changing Situation in the World and the Role of Citizens in Responding to Terrorism: Thursday, Sept. 19, 7 p.m. Lecture and discussion by Michael D'Innocenzo, history professor at Hofstra University.

* A Moment of Silent Meditation: Wednesday, Sept. 11, 10:29 a.m.

* Throughout the day, the schools will conduct solemn activities according to guidelines issued by Governor George Pataki.
