Legislator Richard J. Nicolello has co-sponsored a bill with the Republican delegation to create an open space fund for Nassau County. The fund is going to be used to purchase plots of land in Nassau County that can be used for recreational, cultural, archeological or historical purposes. The pool will be created through the sale of properties currently owned by Nassau County.

"This legislation is the brainchild of Legislator Norma Gonsalves and through her hard work, we hope to preserve areas that communities of Nassau can enjoy and be proud of," Nicolello said about the fund.

Through this bill, the county will contribute three percent of the net proceeds of sales of developed properties owned by the Nassau County government. A full 100 percent of the net proceeds of undeveloped pieces of land will be given to a fund. The Nassau County Planning Commission and the Open Space and Parks Advisory Committee will review possible sites. These groups will examine proposed properties and present their recommendations to the Nassau County Legislature.

"This legislation is a terrific idea that will make Nassau a more appealing place to live, work and play. I am very happy to be a part of a bill that will allow us to pass on a greener and more beautiful county to our children," Nicolello added.
