Kickoff to Access to Success Begins With Youth Development
On Tuesday, June 18, the New Cassel/Westbury Youth Services - in partnership with the Yours Ours Mine (YOM) Community Center, Inc. - launched a program entitled "Access to Success Begins with Youth Development." A pizza party to kick off the event was held in the main room of the Westbury Community Center, located 360 Post Avenue in Westbury.
Second JDC Guard Sentenced
Bobby Stewart of West Babylon, a former guard at the Nassau County Juvenile Detention Center (JDC), was sentenced to five months in jail and five months probation for extorting more than $20,000 from the parents of a 15-year-old incarcerated at the Westbury facility.
Westbury Mother-Daughter Combo Scores in 11th Annual Police Appreciation Run
With nearly 700 entrants and 606 finishers, and spurred on by the memory of those NYPD and Port Authority heroes who gave their lives on 9/11, this year's David Lerner Associates Long Island Police Appreciation Run was the biggest ever, and undoubtedly the most emotional as well. The 5 Kilometer Run was held at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow on Thursday evening June 13.
17th Annual JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge July 30
Residents and employees of businesses of Westbury and the surrounding communities are invited to join corporate executives across Long Island for the 17th Annual JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge. The 3.5-mile event, open to runners, walkers and joggers, will be held at Jones Beach on Tuesday, July 30 at 7 p.m. At this time, New York Islanders great and recent Hockey Hall of Fame inductee Clark Gillies will be on hand to start the race, which begins and ends at Parking Field 5 (near the intersection of Wantagh Parkway and Ocean Drive).
