Rose Nataro (nee Venza), of Westbury, died on March 13, 2002. Wife of the late Frank. Mother of Rose Marie Mistretta, Barbara Guadagno (Dominick) and the late Michael. Thomas J. Slattery, of Westbury, died on March 24, 2002. Husband of Kathleen (nee McManus). Father of Eileen and the late Michael Lojacono, Maureen and Bernard Cuda and Ann and John Walsh. Grandfather of Ryan and Caroline Walsh. Brother of John, Vincent, Gerald Slattery, Peggy Lee and the late Walter Slattery. Uncle of many nieces and nephews. Sheila Eithene MacDevitt, 85, of Parsons and a former resident of Westbury, died on March 27, 2002, at the Labette County Medical Center. She had been in failing health and had resided at Woodridge Estates for one 1/2 years. She was born Jan. 26, 1917 in Brooklyn, a daughter of Michael F. O'Rourke and Cecilia (Kenny) O'Rourke. She grew up and attended schools in NY, graduating with a bachelor of science degree from St. John's University. She was first employed as a claims adjuster in Brooklyn and had been a legislative assistant with the NYS Legislature. For many years, she was a community information and resource specialist at the public library in East Meadow, until retiring in 1988.
Following her retirement, she moved to Tuscon, AZ, where she lived for 10 years. In 1998, she moved to Safford, AZ, and lived there until moving to Parsons, KS in November 2000. While living in NY, she had served as a volunteer at NC Correctional Center and counseled women about to be released on employment, finances, day care and other coping skills.
She loved Arizona sunsets, politics, giving her opinion and reading a good book. She enjoyed traveling and the theater. Most of all, she loved being surrounded by friends and family.
She and Robert E. MacDevitt were married June 3, 1939 in Brooklyn. He preceded her in death Sept. 7, 1972. She is survived by three sons, Robert MacDevitt (Sue) of Parsons, Justin MacDevitt of Lakewood, CO, and David MacDevitt (Katie) of Pima, AZ; three granddaughters, Kasiah and Kendra MacDevitt of Pima, Kelly MacDevitt of Parsons; three stepgrandchildren, Aaron and Melissa Kipp of Topeka, KS, and Jason Kipp of Manhattan, KS; and one sister, Micahaleen Patterson (Dr. Mryron) of NYC. She was preceded in death by her sister Eileen Dibrell.
Arrangements were made by the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, Parsons. Funeral services were held March 30 with Rev. John Schaich officiating. Memorials are suggested to the Labette County Medical Center Foundation.
