New Cassel Unveils a Different Kind of Senior Housing
Located on a one-acre site at Union Avenue, Grand and Center Streets, Apex will provide affordable apartments to 50 seniors on a site that formerly housed two private and rundown homes. Aimed at seniors who are well enough to maintain their own health viability, the goal of Apex is to provide an environment where seniors can flourish rather than just merely survive.

Local Resident Commended for Heroic Efforts
Streich, an East Meadow letter carrier for more than three decades, has been delivering mail to the residents of The Knolls for more than eight years. Although he is only required to deposit the seniors' mail into a cluster box, Streich, knowing of some of the residents who may have difficulty getting outside to collect their mail, made a habit of personally delivering the mail to their apartments.

Carle Place Celebrates Its Coaches
John Wooden, legendary coach of the championship UCLA basketball team in the 1960s and 1970s, considered himself more than just someone who taught his players X's and O's. In his own words, Wooden saw his role in working with young people as a "sacred trust helping to mold character, instill productive principles and values, and provide a positive example to those under my supervision."
