Several community members were on hand to represent New Cassel and South Westbury at the Dec. 13 meeting hosted by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) at Park Avenue School. During the meeting, DEC and New York State Department of Health (DOH) officials provided an update on cleanup progress at the New Cassel Industrial Area, a 170-acre area home to 13 Class 2 hazardous waste sites.

On Jan. 25, Town of North Hempstead Supervisor May Newburger gave her ninth annual State of the Town Address, which follows her resounding victory in the November elections when she won her fifth term of office as town supervisor. The talk was given at the League of Women Voters annual luncheon at the George Washington Manor in Roslyn. Amy Bass chaired the event.

The Westbury High School Girls Basketball team last week defeated Levittown's Division Avenue High School in Conference III play. The final score was 63 to 44. Westbury's girls now have a record of 5-2. Division's record is 6-3.
