Westbury Friends School, 550 Post Avenue at Jericho Turnpike, Westbury, will hold the second Open House in its winter-spring series on Sunday afternoon, Jan. 13, at 2 p.m. Parents with young children in nursery through grade 6 are invited to attend. Teachers and school parents will be present to greet and inform prospective families for the 2002-2003 school year, and to offer tours of classrooms and the school's 17-acre grounds. The presentation begins promptly at 2 p.m., with tours immediately following.

Westbury Friends is a culturally diverse elementary school for 170 students, accredited by the New York State Association of Independent Schools, with small classes and highly qualified and dedicated teachers. "We offer academic excellence in a friendly, nurturing environment," notes Director Ida Edelman. "As a Friends school we seek to develop in each child a sense of unique self-worth, and an appreciation of the worth of others."

The school has recently completed five new classrooms in its "Building Friends for the Future" campaign, in response to expanding student enrollment, and is now completing plans for a new Library Media Center. To meet the needs of its professional parents, Westbury Friends School offers half- and full-day nursery, full-day kindergarten, and extended-day care from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. The school offers extensive computer, music, art, and physical education programs, as well as instruction in Spanish and French. A program of financial assistance is also available.

Prospective school parents are invited to telephone director Ida Edelman at Westbury Friends School at 333-3178, for further admissions information, and for details of the Dec. 1 open house. The next dates in the Winter-Spring Open House series are: Wednesday, Feb. 13, 7 p.m. and Wednesday, April 10, 7 p.m. Refreshments will be served.
