The New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) recently informed Wheatley High School that its varsity field hockey team has been recognized for academic excellence. The Scholar-Athlete Recognition Program, which was initiated by NYSPHSAA 11 years ago, recognizes team academic excellence based on the cumulative grade point average of a representative number of team members. Under the leadership of Coach Bernie Hintz, the Wheatley Boys Soccer Team recently completed the second most successful season in t he history of the sport at Wheatley. During Coach Hintz's 30-year tenure as coach of the Wildcat Soccer program, his teams have won 10 Conference championships, 7 Nassau county titles and three Southeast Regional Championships.
