Westbury High School PTSA Thanks Merchants
By Chester McGibbon
What is widely regarded as one of the most successful pancake breakfasts organized by the Parents Teachers Students Association (PTSA) of Westbury High School, took place on Saturday, Oct. 20, in the school's cafeteria.
The breakfast traditionally kicks off activities for homecoming, and preceded the parade, which followed the usual route: from Saint Brigid's Church to Westbury High School, via Post Avenue. The weather, which registered a low of 60 degrees from as early as 6 a.m., hovered around the mid-70s by 2 p.m., much to the delight of the scores of spectators watching the football game between Westbury and Calhoun High Schools. Although Westbury lost to Calhoun, team spirit and good sportsmanship endured, and a good time was had by all.
The overall success of the pancake breakfast is highlighted by the fact that a total of $2,209.86 was netted. This is especially gratifying since all of this money will go toward the scholarship fund, which awards scholarships every year to deserving high school seniors.
Members of the mercantile community of Westbury and its environs have been generous with their contributions over the years, and this year was no exception. It is with this in mind that the executive board of Westbury High School PTSA extend a warm and sincere appreciation to the following merchants:
Althea Johnson Agency - Allstate, Associated Supermarket, Westbury; BJ's, Jericho; Burger King, Old Country Road; Compare Farms, Hicksville; Entenmann's, Mineola; E.R. Meats, International House Of Pancakes, Jericho; McDonald's, Jericho; McDonald's, Old Country Road; Mi Familia Foods, National Wholesale Liquidators, Westbury; Pathmark, Jericho; Pathmark, New Hyde Park; Post Avenue Deli, Seven Eleven, Westbury; Stop & Shop, Hicksville; Western Beef, Mineola.
The PTSA also thanks the various communities for their continued support.
