(The following is an open letter to the community. The writer unsuccessfully ran for the office of County Legislator in the 9th District, in the Nov. 6 elections.)

Thank you for all your votes, your kind words, and unwavering support. Your dedication to my candidacy and me was always inspirational. Along with my family and longtime friends, I met many new and wonderful people in the 9th Legislative District. This campaign marked the beginning of new friendships and the renewal of old acquaintances. I must express an extra measure of gratitude and appreciation to Cathy and Emil Samuels. Their endless generosity of warmth and brightness of spirit got me through the coldest and bleakest of days. I enjoyed and savored each and every day with all of you.

With Tom Suozzi's resounding victory as Nassau County Executive on Nov. 6, we all became winners. He and Howard Weitzman, as newly elected County Comptroller, will surely turn Nassau County around and make it the finest in the country.

My best wishes to all those who won and to those who worked so hard and truly believe that public service is a noble, rewarding profession, and that every one of us can make a difference.
