The East Williston School District would like to publicly acknowledge the contributions that were made by the Roslyn Country Club and the Glen Oaks Club to support the Wheatley High School girls tennis program. Thanks to the enthusiastic support of the management and membership of the clubs, the district's varsity and junior high girls tennis teams were permitted to conduct team practices at these outstanding facilities.

With the district's building program on the horizon, which provides for the construction of four new tennis courts at the high school, the board of education approved the creation of a junior high school tennis program for the 2001-2002 school year. Students in the 7th and 8th grades are eligible for this level of interscholastic athletic competition, and the girls season is in the fall and the boys will play in the spring. Because construction precluded the use of the existing tennis courts this fall, the district sought the assistance of local country clubs, seeking permission to use their tennis courts on which to conduct daily practice sessions.

Stewart Fox, the owner of the Roslyn Country Club, stepped forward to make his tennis courts available to our junior high girls tennis team. Under the direction of Coach Kevin O'Pasek, the team began practicing at Roslyn CC on Sept. 7. Coach Mo Schneider and the members of the varsity girls tennis team have had access to the tennis courts at the Glen Oaks Club. Stanley Barshay, tennis committee chairman at Glen Oaks, was most helpful in establishing a practice schedule for the team and Doug Domino, general manager of the club, made arrangements for daily visits.

The East Williston School District and Athletic Department feel indebted to the Roslyn Country Club and the Glen Oaks Club for coming to the school community's assistance in a time of need. The district's players and coaches have been made to feel welcome, and the hospitality that has been extended is greatly appreciated.
