Westbury ultramarathoner John Cantwell scored a decisive victory in the 6th annual Long Island 50 Kilometer Endurance Run, held on the roads of Oyster Bay and Huntington townships on Saturday, May 19.

The 42-year-old Cantwell covered the hilly 31-mile course in 4 hours, 15 minutes, 57 seconds, crossing the finish line at Fireman's Field in Oyster Bay more than 30 minutes in front of his nearest competitors, Jim Cazchor of Bedminster, New Jersey (4:46:30), Lanny Levitt of Brooklyn (4:47:32) and Michael Tobin of Staten Island (4:49:29). Cantwell previously won this event in 1999.

The Long Island Endurance Run is conducted by the Greater Long Island Running Club, with Nick Palazzo, Don Butchin and Rich Innamorate serving as the co-directors of the event.
