Carle Place native Christina Macchia, a freshman at Sacred Heart University in Connecticut, has been named the university's Rookie of the Year. Christina is a starter on the NCAA Div. 1 Women's Lacrosse team.

Sacred Heart Women's Lacrosse plays in the Northeast Conference. Macchia surpassed all expectations by taking home NEC Rookie of the Week honors five weeks out of the seven weeks of the season. Macchia currently tops all NEC newcomers in scoring (44 points/3.14ppg), goals (29 goals/2.07gpg) and assists (15 assists/1.07 apg).

The freshman attack from Carle Place finished her stellar season ranked third in the whole Northeast Conference for scoring and assists. As the leading scorer for the Pioneers she was instrumental in leading Sacred Heart to a 10-4 record and helped Sacred Heart University tie a new school record by posting 10 wins on the season. A native of Carle Place and a member of the Carle Place High School Class of 2000, Christina was an All Nassau County lacrosse player. Her family wish to extend congratulations on an outstanding freshman season.
