In the annual school budget vote and election on Tuesday, May 15, local voters approved Westbury School District's proposed 2001-2002 budget of $56,263,848 and re-elected Carlos H. Aristy, Floyd T. Ewing, III, and Lawrence S. Zaino to the Board of Education.

The budget passed by a margin of about 200, with 803 yes and 605 no votes. The re-elected board members, who ran unopposed, received the following number of votes: Carlos H. Aristy - 826, Floyd T. Ewing, III - 866, Lawrence S. Zaino - 982.

The Carle Place School District's proposed 2001-2002 budget of $27,970,294 passed by a margin of 20, with more than 1200 local residents participating in that vote. Proposition 1, the school budget received 629 yes and 609 no votes. Proposition 2, the transportation proposition, was rejected, with 366 yes votes and 770 no votes. In addition, Peter W. Meade was elected to the Board of Education. The candidate, who ran unopposed, received 937 votes.
