A Sacred Vow, a Community Blessing
It was not your ordinary wedding at St. Brigid's Catholic Church in Westbury on Saturday, May 19, as Father Frank Gaeta presided over a marriage ceremony for seven couples. As part of the parish's Hispanic Ministry, the couples participated in a community-style wedding ceremony, exchanging marriage vows and receiving the sacrament of matrimony.

County Executive's Office Comments on Sump Issue
The office of County Executive Thomas Gulotta this week provided comments on the issue of the Carman Avenue Sumps, also known as Storm Basin #51, in response to concerns by local residents that the sump property was for sale. In last week's edition of The Westbury Times , residents expressed opposition to the sale of the property, after the county executive's office had issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the purchase of 20 of the 30 acres included in the property.

In the annual school budget vote and election on Tuesday, May 15, local voters approved Westbury School District's proposed 2001-2002 budget of $56,263,848 and re-elected Carlos H. Aristy, Floyd T. Ewing, III, and Lawrence S. Zaino to the Board of Education.

Carle Place native Christina Macchia, a freshman at Sacred Heart University in Connecticut, has been named the university's Rookie of the Year. Christina is a starter on the NCAA Div. 1 Women's Lacrosse team.

Local Athletes Score in Nationwide Insurance Run for ASPIRE
On Saturday, April 7, runners, wheelchair athletes and race walkers from all over the New York Metropolitan area flocked to Plainview-Old Bethpage to participate in the 24th annual running of the prestigious Nationwide Insurance 10 Kilometer Run for ASPIRE, which is the first 10 Kilometer race of the year on Long Island.
