The mark of new beginnings is all around Post Avenue this winter, as seen in such developments as the construction of an assisted living facility, a new restaurant at the site of the former Wheatley Hills Tavern, and a new slate of educational programming at the Westbury Community Center.

* On the southern end of Post Avenue, a 168-unit assisted living facility is under ongoing construction by Westbury Senior Living, L.L.C. The facility is to be situated on the eastern side of Post, at the corner of Madison Avenue. It is directly across from the Westbury Train Station, which is slated to receive a $2 to 2.5 million renovation from the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR).

* Heading north on Post, a new restaurant is now open at the former site of the famous Wheatley Hills Tavern. The Red Fort, located at 170 Post Avenue, is operated by Sewa R. Arora, the former owner of Bombay Cafe in Westbury.

* And on the northern tip of the corridor, at the Westbury Community Center, located at 360 Post Avenue, a new slate of senior educational programming has arrived for the winter season. The Winter 2001 program of ACES (Adult Cultural and Educational Studies) runs from Jan. 8 to March 23, and includes programs ranging from yoga instruction, to painting classes, to a trip to the United Nations.
