Dorothy Moffett (Guidera), a native and longtime resident of Westbury, died on Oct. 16, 2000 in Titusville, FL, after a long illness. She retired as secretary to the superintendent of Westbury Schools. Wife of the late Howard. Daughter of the late Augusta and Thomas Guidera. Sister of the late Jean Feeney, John and Robert. She is survived by her sister Marion Stringer and brothers Thomas, Richard and Gerald. Arrangements were made by the Donohue Funeral Home, Westbury. Mass at St. Brigid's RC Church. Interment Holy Rood Cemetery.
Arlene Hamlett Coleman, of Westbury, died on Oct. 17, 2000. She was born April 17, 1946 in Newark, NJ, the first of two children born to Edwin C. Hamlett Sr. and Helen Sheffield. As a child, Mrs. Coleman was a an active Girl Scout. She grew up to be a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader. She attended William Patterson University in NJ where she was awarded a bachelor of arts degree. Thereafter, she earned a master's degree from Queens College. She was also a Fulbright Scholar.
For a time, Mrs. Coleman served as a consultant for Westinghouse Learning Corp., now VIACOM. She later worked for 14 years at the Powells Lane Elementary School in the Westbury School District where she taught reading.
A vital and active participant in the life of the Westbury community, Mrs. Coleman was a member of many groups and organizations including Jack and Jill of America, Delta Sigma Theta, Inc., numerous Parent Teacher Organizations, the Toni Morrison Society, she was one of the founders of the You Go Girl Book Club and a member of the Links, Inc. It was throught the Links that she began a reading-mobile in order to allow children in New Cassel, who lived a great distance from the public library, to have access to library facilities.
In addition to these substantial accomplishments, Mrs. Coleman was a member, former vice president and former president of the Westbury Library Board. An accomplished writer, she was Poet Laureate of Westbury and author of a poetry collection entitled Ebony Pearls as well as several plays and songs. She held several college-level teaching positions in her lifetime in addition to her professorship at Nassau Community College and the teaching staffs of both SUNY Old Westbury and Adelphi University.
Mother to all the children in the community, Mrs. Coleman was a former Woman of the Year for Zeta Phi Beta, Inc. She was a mentor and a member of the I Have A Dream Foundation. She was also a former radio talk show host. She was a member of the Westbury United Methodist Church where she served as lay speaker. She was also a beloved member of the Emmaeus community.
Mrs. Coleman is survived by her husband, Gregory D. Coleman Jr.; her children, Candice Arlene, Naniette Helene, Aaron Gregory; her father, Edwin C. Hamlett Sr. of Hillsdale, NJ; and her brother, Edwin C. Hamlett Jr. of East Orange, NJ.

Jenett Hughes (Blair), 78, of Lanoka Harbor, NJ, died on Oct. 19, 2000. She was employed by the NC Library System retiring in 1985. She was a member of the Carle Place Seniors. She was predeceased by her husband Eugene in 1977 and her son Kenneth in 1958. She is survived by her goddaughters, Susan McDonald of Bricktown, NJ, and Jean Horton, of Lanoka Harbor with whom she lived; and her sister Kathryn Foder of Alabama.
