With the help of Cablevision Systems Corporation, the Village of Westbury recently provided the Westbury Amateur Baseball Association (WABA), home to the Westbury Little League, with a new electronic scoreboard. Donated by Cablevision, this massive scoreboard, weighing in at more than 500 pounds, stands majestically behind the fence in right-center field at the little league park. It will be tested for the remainder of the fall season and ready for use on the next opening day.
Ed Chiodo, WABA chairman, spearheaded this special occasion by approaching the village with a wish-list for his little league organization. Luckily for the Village of Westbury, this request coincided with the efforts of Cablevision's Manager of Franchisees, Jeff Clark's, community outreach program. "Jeff let us know that if Cablevision could help the Village of Westbury with its effort to improve community surroundings, they would do what they could to answer the call," said Village Clerk-Treasurer, Tom Savino. "When Ed came to us with a scoreboard on their wish-list, we immediately posed the question to Jeff Clark at Cablevision. Thanks to his response, here we are," he concluded.
Trustee Jack Meegan, the liaison to recreation activities, commented, "We are very thankful to Cablevision and to Jeff Clark. Because of their generosity, the village could provide our little league kids with a gem that is unique to most little league fields. What's most important, is that we did not have to make this purchase from budget expenses." Trustee Meegan added, "This scoreboard is absolutely magnificent."
